Crisis Management

Every organization will experience crisis. The issue for leaders is how they manage it. This is defined as the extent to which companies can mitigate lasting damage, the speed with which they can define and execute a plan for change, and the credibility with which they can communicate a clear, credible message with internal and external audiences.

Careful Preparation

GRS helps clients avoid being reactive to crisis with careful preparation. Using our strategy and research capabilities, we develop an analysis of past crises that have occurred in the client’s industry or adjacent relevant business sectors. We then construct a model of potential crises that identifies the elements requiring attention to successfully manage the situation. This includes technology redundancy, locating key personnel, developing alternate locations, assigning executive decision rights, and managing internal and external communications.

Using our scenario planning processes, which ranges from a simple conference style management working session to full-scale “war games" we work with clients to identify the core objectives to focus on during a crisis, assign a team of key leaders who can be successful in critical roles, and assess where significant gaps currently exist in preparations. From our experience, even if a specific crisis has not been previously prepared for, a well-trained leadership team acting in accordance with a pre-determined plan can manage unique situations very successfully.

Interim Crisis Management

When a crisis hits an organization GRS is there to help. With a highly experienced team, we can work on-site to quickly identify the issues for immediate focus, assemble a crisis team with capability to move resources, and craft a clear message for employees, stakeholders and the media. GRS works with senior leaders to support them through the immediate issues and take steps to ensure the crisis is contained and non-recurring.
